When Solomon Gulesserian fled the Turkish genocide, he came to America and ended up in Madison almost by accident. He was selling rugs in the Midwest with some friends when they had a falling out in Madison and Solomon's friends abandoned him here.

Solomon opened Madison's first Oriental rug store, known as "Madison's Rug Emporium," located where Soap Opera is today.

Today, Gulesserian's is run by Edward's youngest son, John (who is in semi-retirement), and John's children and grandchildren.
